A master class cum webinar on Restaurant Design and Interior Lighting was organized by the Design Department of Poddar International College, Mansarovar, Jaipur on 30th September 2020. Ar. Annu Saxena, an architect based in Delhi explained the restaurant designs through her project works.
She told the students that the restaurant design is generally based on either one word given by the client, or theme or cuisine type. Keeping this in mind, the designer has to do detailed research about themes/art, colors and the material to be used in artwork, furniture, roof, and terrace, etc.
She also talked about that the lighting used in restaurants is of three types namely general lighting, task lighting, and indirect lighting. General lighting is less used in restaurants because in restaurants people should be able to see the food/their table not what is happening at the next table. Task lighting is important as it is used to lit up the food, and indirect lighting is used to lit up the elements and to show the ambiance of the restaurants.
She covered up almost all the intricacies of restaurant design. It was a very informative session and also an interesting one from a design point of view.
