Taking the Lead in Girls’ Safety

Women are the backbone of any nation and protecting women and their rights will lead the nation towards development. We have to step up as women and take the lead. On these lines, Poddar International College, hosted a National Seminar on Girls’ Safety on January 17, 2023. Dr. Anand Poddar is the Founder and Chairman of the College.  This thoughtful initiative was taken by the College’s Women Cell lead by Dr. Meenu Mangal, Vice Principal of the College and Chairperson of Women’s Club in Association with Nirbhaya Squad represented by Ms. Suneeta Meena. Ms. Meena is the Nodal Officer of Nirbhaya Squad and the Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police, Jaipur, Rajasthan.

 

The event commenced with lamp lightening ceremony by the renowned Guest acompanied by Mrs. Roopal Poddar, Chairperson, Dr. Praveen Goswami, Principal and Dr. Meenu Mangal from Poddar International College. Ms. Sneha Sharma from the Department of Psychology hosted the event. She welcomed the Guest of Honour along with the members of the Nirbhaya Squad.

 

Opening remarks were presented by Dr. Praveen Goswami. He stated that a nation cannot progress until and unless girls participate in the nation’s activities. Dr. Meenu Mangal then addressed the participants by briefing about the activities of the Women Cell like seminars and awareness programs on women safety are organized from time to time to create awareness amongst the girls. It was observed that though mentors are always with the students to guide them and pave their way forward towards a bright career should not be obstructed so girls’ safety is very essential in today’s scenario.

 

The Guest of the event – Ms. Suneeta Meena started the session emphasizing upon Shakti – the Power bringing Positivity, which in turn brings Progress to the country. She urged the girls to be Bold, and advised them to be independent, confident, happy, smart, fearless and strong willed. She assured them that at the time of trouble, Rajasthan Police is always with them. Ms. Meena introduced the members of the Nirbhaya Sqad who are continuously and consistently working for the girls’ safety at Malls, Central Park, Public Transport and outside the Schools/Colleges of the city.

 

Operation Romeo is also a part of their initiative. The Sqad members are dressed in civil to catch the culprits and imprison them. These cops can operate all kinds of weapons and can handle four persons, at a time. On the numbers 100 and 112 the victims can seek the required help. There is also Mahila Garima Helpline 1090 where police can approach the victims keeping their identities and complaints confidential. Besides, help can also be taken at WhatsApp by registering the complaints with relevant photographs/videos.

 

So far, half lakh women have been trained in Karate by the Nirbhaya Sqad. Such self-defense trainings are absolutely free of cost. Ms. Meena stated that their outreach to help out women is around 5 lakhs.  

 

Further, Ms. Meena elucidated that there is a Helpline for their help, and in case any girl experiences any kind of misbehavior from boys, then they can directly approach by complaining on the mentioned Helpline. Besides, some essential insights about Law and Traffic rules were also provided by the Assistant DCP.

 

She laid stress on ‘Girl Education’ and urged them to make a good career as this is the golden period of shaping career. In addition, she also briefed the participants about mobile data privacy which girls should take care of.

 

Concluding the program, two videos were played by the Rajasthan Police depicting the efficient and commendable functioning of Nirbhaya Sqad and Rajasthan Police. Around 250 students along with Management and the Faculty of the College participated in the event to make it a huge success.
