Practical Approach towards the Indian Securities Market

The Department of Commerce and Management, Poddar International College successfully organized a three-days workshop Practical Approach towards the Indian Securities Market for the students of BBA and B.Com. The workshop was conducted by 
Dr. Priya Agarwal eminent resource person associated with the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE). The programme aimed to bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and real-world practices of the Indian financial market.
Day 1 of the workshop focused on building a strong conceptual foundation of the Indian Securities Market. 
Dr. Priya Agarwal explained the mechanism and structure of the securities market, highlighting the role of various market participants. Special emphasis was laid on understanding the Primary and Secondary Markets, their functioning, and their significance in capital formation. Real-life examples and practical insights helped students grasp complex concepts with ease, making the session highly interactive and informative.
On Day 2, the discussion revolved around Mutual Funds, one of the most popular investment instruments. The session covered types of mutual funds, their features, and the risks involved in mutual fund investments. Dr. Agarwal also explained the trading and settlement process, along with the rights and obligations of investors, enabling students to understand the regulatory framework that protects investor interests. The practical orientation of the session encouraged students to think critically about investment decisions.
Day 3 addressed some of the most crucial and contemporary issues related to investor awareness and protection. The session included an insightful discussion on Ponzi Schemes and how investors can identify and avoid fraudulent practices. Students were introduced to investor support mechanisms such as the SAARTHI App and SCORES (SEBI Complaints Redress System). The workshop concluded with guidance on exam registration, providing students with clarity on career opportunities in the securities market.
Overall, the three-day workshop proved to be extremely enriching and value-adding. It enhanced students’ practical understanding of the Indian securities market, promoted financial literacy, and instilled awareness about ethical and informed investing. The initiative by the Department of Commerce and Management, Poddar International College, was highly appreciated by the students, and the sessions conducted by Dr. Priya Agarwal were both engaging and insightful, leaving a lasting impact on the participants.
